Jan spent twentyfive years at sea playing and singing around the world and during this time he became a much respected folk singer.
At one time he formed one half of the folk duo "Sycamore Smith" and has performed live and recorded sessions for television.
He has appeared on BBC and commercial radio and performed with other well-known artistes including the shanty group "Mainbrace".
He has a deep understanding of his material and this can be felt in his renditions, sometimes soft and sympathetic and at other times strong and powerful.
He sings our songs in the way they were meant to be sung sometimes accompanied by his twelve string guitar or mandolin but often without any music whatsoever other than that of his own voice.
